Army Awards Dr. Matthew Neal Grant to Develop TraumaChek Device

Dr. Matthew Neal

Congratulations to Matthew D. Neal, MD, FACS, who has been awarded a grant from the US Army Medical Research Acquisition Activity for his project “TraumaChek: A Field-Deployable Dielectric Coagulometer for Comprehensive Hemostatic Assessment in Remote Damage Control Resuscitation (RDCR).” The funds will be used to develop and validate TraumaChek, a miniaturized, multichannel, portable, handheld blood coagulation analyzer that can be used by service members to rapidly diagnose traumatic hemorrhage and trauma-induced coagulopathy on the battlefield. The device will help reduce the volumes of blood products used in treating combat and civilian casualties. The studies will be performed in collaboration with engineering personnel and co-inventors at Case Western Reserve University.
