On 9 May 2023, the Department of Surgery held the Inaugural Health Equity Coalition Summit at The Homewood Community Engagement Center. The engagement was intended to inspire our community advocates, residents and faculty to see the overwhelming positive benefits that come with collaborating with community partners to build health equity. Our speakers highlighted specific examples of such collaborations with UPMC and the Neighborhood Resilience Project, the Community Collaborative for Special Populations, and Primary Health Services. Program coordinators and speakers included Drs. Callie Hlavin, Steven Evans, and Emilia Diego.
